YAMAHA AUSTRALIAN ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY MXSTORE

The Australian enduro scene launches into a new era in 2025, with a rebrand to the Australian Enduro Championship (AEC) from what was formerly known as the Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC).

In its previous guise as AORC, AEC was first introduced in 2007 after being previously run in 2005 and 2006 as the National Off-Road Series. The Australian Off-Road community were pushing for a nationally recognised championship after only meeting once a year at the Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE), otherwise their only opportunity to compete was at state championship level. This then prompted the National Off-Road Series and what is now known as AEC. From 2007 until 2009 the championship was promoted privately. In 2010, Motorcycling Australia (MA) took over the management of AEC and continues to manage the championship today.

The Australian Enduro Championship is the official enduro championship of Motorcycling Australia. AEC is both nationally and internationally recognised as producing top-level off-road riders and is a platform where the country’s best competitors and officials combine to put on Australia’s biggest off-road show, where it’s a case of rider and bike versus the elements of natural terrain. Furthermore, AEC is an international stepping stone for Australian off-road racing talent, producing many champions who have gone on to ride at international level. Many riders from AEC have been victorious at world championships, representing Australia in the International Six Day Enduro (ISDE).

RACE FORMATS

SPRINT

Sprint is an off-road, natural terrain event consisting of a number of heats of a short course (approx between 9-12 minutes). Each heat is set along the lines of an Enduro Special Test. The rider in each class with the least total elapsed time will be declared the winner of the class. They will race this track over the course of a day as many times as possible. Riders will race against the clock and start 15-30 seconds apart.

CROSS COUNTRY

Cross Country is an off-road, natural terrain, continuous multi-lap event with each lap being above 10kms in length. The intended lap time is usually greater than 15 minutes approximately. The rider in each class completing the most laps in the least elapsed time will be declared the winner of the class. Seniors will race for a maximum of three hours, with juniors a maximum of two hours. It starts with riders lined up in a single row, one row at a time by seeding/class, and has a minimum of one minute between rows starting.

ENDURO

Enduro is an extended cross-country, with sprints/special tests inside of it. It is a time-card event whereby a number of stages are raced in a time trial against the clock, which require competitors to maintain a prescribed kilometre per hour average over varying terrain. Competitors are moderated by a series of secret time keeping checkpoints along the race course and are penalized based on their arrival time to the checkpoints. The rider in each class with the least total elapsed time will be declared the winner of the class.
